STYLE GUIDE
Deciding on the finishing details of your soft furnishings can often be difficult. This Style Guide offers information on styles of curtain headings, linings and Roman Blinds, to aid you in your decorating decisions.

Curtain Headings
1. Pencil pleats
Pencil pleats are a simple, less formal option that does not require fullness of fabric. This heading is ideal for most fabrics, particularly when hanging from a pole.

2. Gathered heading
A Gathered heading is used for light-weight fabrics and is made using a narrow tape. This gives a rustic feel, perfect for small cottage windows.

3. Single pleats
Single pleats offer a sleek, elegant finish and give a hand-finished alternative to the Gathered heading. If you do not want full, heavy curtains, the Single pleat is ideal with the straight stacking effect of a Double or Triple pleat.

2. Double pleats
These are similar to the Single pleats, but provide double the fullness of fabric. These work well with interlining and can be formal or less formal in accordance to your choice of fabric. The Double pleat, like the Single pleat, is economical with the quantity of fabric required.

3. Triple pleats
Triple pleats are a more formal, traditional heading. They are perfect for use on large windows, where a lot of fullness is required. This does use more fabric, but offers a sumptuous finish.
Blind and Curtain Linings
1. Lining
Lining is used as a protective backing for your choice of fabric. This is not required on voile fabric, but is recommended for all other fabrics. We offer ivory or white linings, but other colours can be ordered.
2. Interlining
Interlining provides extra insulation for your curtains or blinds, ideal if you have large or drafty windows. Interlining is particularly advisable when using a silk fabric, but can also be used for a luxurious finish. It is attached between your choice of fabric and the lining.
3. Blackout Lining
Blackout lining prevents sunlight from entering your room and can be applied to both curtains and blinds. This is recommended for children's bedrooms as it will make a room particularly dark during the day.
Roman Blinds
A Roman Blind is made of fabric and can be drawn into horizontal pleats. This differentiates the Roman Blind from the Venetian Blind made of plastic or wooden slats.* Roman Blinds can be made from a variety of fabrics. Our blinds are made using a corded system. They are attached to your window frame or the wall above with a covered wooden baton. This can be pulled up and down using the cord and acorn, that is then wrapped around a cleat. Cleats and acorns are offered in a variety of metal finishes. The corded system is attached to the blind with a safety mechanism that complies to Blind Safety Regulations. We can also provide a headrail system with metal chain pulley - a smart solution for recessed windows.

*We do not offer Venetian Blinds at Susanna Croft Interiors
